Letter to Families Jan 27th 2023 - Lots of Important Dates
Good Afternoon Pine Ridge Families!
Today was our first formal exam day in a few years and everything appeared to go quite smoothly. Just a reminder that due to the bus cancellations yesterday that Monday is our Period 2 Exams, Tuesday will be Period 3 and Wednesday will be our Period 4 Exams. We are hopeful that there will be no further cancellations and the weather will cooperate to wrap up this semester.
Looking Ahead – Semester 2
Below is a list of important dates for Semester 2. Please be sure to update your calendars so that your child will not miss any important dates and so that you can plan accordingly as a family.

Learning Preference for 2023-2024 School Year:
This is just a friendly reminder that messages have been sent from the DDSB regarding tonight’s deadline for families to change their learning preference for the next school year. The message to families is attached for your convenience. Just to highlight, the deadline is at 11:59 tonight (Friday, January 27th). Please also note the following key considerations:
- Students will not have the opportunity?to switch?learning options throughout the year.
- Students must be living in Durham Region full-time in order to remain enrolled in DDSB@Home. Proof of address will be required. Extended travel is not permitted.
- DDSB@Home students must be prepared to participate using web cam and/or microphone to interact with staff and peers.
Timetables for Semester 2:
Student timetables are available on the Parent Portal. On February 3rd, our first day of semester 2, student homerooms will be emailed to families next week and timetables provided in the students homeroom for everyone’s convenience. Moving forward into next year, it will be expected that families are using Parent Portal and paper copies of timetables will not be automatically provided to all students.
Semester 2 Timetable changes: Students will be able to book appointments with Guidance to make timetable changes based on the following schedule:
February 6 – Grade 12
February 7 – Grade 11
February 8 – Grade 10
February 9 – Grade 9
Google forms will be posted the day before the scheduled date for students to submit requests for course changes. All students must have a note from a parent/guardian approving changes. Students must follow their current timetable until they are contacted by Guidance. Course changes will be made for compulsory course issues, prerequisite issues, level changes and incomplete timetables.
Course Selection Presentations for 2023-2024:
Course selections for next school year will be coming up in February. Presentations to support students with course selections will occur on February 13th. The grade 11 presentation will be held during period 1, grade 10’s will be during period 2 and our current grade 9’s will be during period 4. The program for course selections is called myBlueprint and this will open for course selection from February 14th – March 2nd.
College Panel for Grade 11 students:
On February 14 during Period 2 we will be hosting a number of College representatives to provide our Grade 11’s with information and an opportunity to ask questions and begin planning for Post-Secondary placements. It is important for student to consider their options early as the grade 12 course selections will also need to meet the pre-requisite expectations of the programs in which they are considering applying to. If they are unsure, that is no problem, however, this can be very helpful for many of our students.
Job Opportunity:
Please see attached poster for a job opportunity with Chartwells here at Pine Ridge. We are hoping to resume cafeteria service through Chartwells rather than having our students providing this service as this will allow our culinary programs to focus more on curriculum and learning opportunities in the future.
