Letter to Families September 15, 2023

Dear Pine Ridge Families;

 

This week we have finished our first full week.  Again, a lot of has happened.  Many sports are kicking off, we had our grade assemblies and club day.  Please review the following to stay up to date with what is happening at Pine Ridge!

 

Leadership Camp:

At the grade assemblies, students were introduced to Leadership Camp.  Leadership camp is an opportunity for students to connect with other students, take risks and learn new skills as well as an opportunity to for our student leaders to further their leadership skills as they help to run the events throughout camp.  Students return to Pine Ridge with a larger sense of community and memories that will last a lifetime.  If your student has shown an interest and you would like more information, please see the attached document for details.

 

Sports:

Varisty Girls Basketball had their first tryout on September 13th.  Junior and Senior Boys Volleyball started their tryouts as well on the 13th.  Students interested in joining the Boys and Girls Golf Team should join the Remind @e2fha6c.  Boys Soccer has also started their tryouts.  Anyone interested in joining Cross Country, meet at 2:15 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays.  If you are interested in any sport or activity and you are unsure of when and where to go, please check in at the Phys Ed office for forms and more information and follow the Pine Ridge Athletics Instagram @pineridge.athletics. 

 

School Community Council:

Correction from last week that our first meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 25th at 7:00 pm here at the school in the main cafeteria.  A virtual option will also be available to join which will be sent out  in advance of our meeting.

Updates from Guidance:

  • The following link will take you to the updated Community Involvement information for September 2023: https://www.ddsb.ca/en/programs-and-learning/community-involvement-hours.aspx#Ineligible-activities
  • Grade 12 Post-Secondary Information:  Over the next few weeks, Guidance will be visiting grade 12 homerooms to discuss post-secondary options.  There will be a grade 12 assembly the last week of September reviewing post-secondary options and pathways for students.
  • Semester 1 Night School registration is open in myBlueprint:  Location:  R.S. Mclaughlin CVI on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Classes begin September 27th and run until January 17th.  

 

Clubs and Councils:

All students who missed club day or do not have access to Instagram, can connect with the teacher advisors for the clubs or come to any meeting to join.  Some of our clubs include Women Empowering Women, Muslim Student Association, Black Student Union, Green Ridge Environmental Club, Leadership, Student Council, Puma Dolls Dance/Cheer Group, Choir & Band, Best Buddies, DECA, GSA, Social Justice League, White Pine Book Club, Robotics and more.  If unsure of where to go or who to talk, just come to the main office and we will point you in the right direction or email our school’s general email address to request more information.
