Message to Families for June 2, 2023

Dear Pine Ridge Families;

 

The weather is definitely making it feel like summer has arrived already.  We are one of very few schools fortunate enough to have air conditioning and we are all very thankful for that.  Please continue to check in with your child as we approach these last few days of the school year to ensure that they are managing their workload and completing tasks to their potential.  In the meantime, we still have a lot of things happening and information to share.  Please be sure to look through the following information:

 

Mean Girls Theatre Production:

We are so excited for our Theatre Production that is coming next week.  Be sure to get your tickets before they are sold out!  Performances are from Wednesday, June 7th – Saturday, June 10th.  All shows start at 7:00 pm.  We hope that many of you will come out to support the show.  Tickets available on School Cash online and for sale every day at lunch.  See attached poster for more information.

 

Athletic Banquet:

Tickets for the Athletic Banquet are available every day at lunch in the front foyer. They are $5.00 and are for students who have played a sport this year and have paid their Athletic Fee.

Where: Main Cafeteria

When: Tuesday, June 13th  5:30-7:30pm

Cost: $5.00

 

Pine Ridge Pride Celebration:

We are inviting students to sign up and to join our celebration and workshop to learn about the complexity of Queer Identities, The history of 2SILGBTQ activism and celebrate the rich diversity and all the community has to offer!  This event will be held in our library from 11:00 – 2:00 on Thursday, June 8th.  Participation is first-come, first-serve for students who sign up.  Students can register at the following link: https://forms.gle/vgpHQJUQn1QHg2C78 .  Come Together to Celebrate Pride and Support One Another.  Allies are Welcome!

 

Literacy Test Results are in!

All students will be notified of their individual results by the end of next week.  Administration has begun working through this communication.  As the results are individual, this process will take multiple days to complete.  Please be patient and feel free to reach out if your child has not heard by Friday, June 9th.

 

Exam Preparation for students:

A Child and Youth Service Worker with DDSB will be coming to Pine Ridge on June 8th and June 13th for the day to work with students.  The focus is exam preparation tips around managing the stress students often experience during their study periods and preparing for tests and exams.  June 8th grade 12 classes will be the focus.  June 13th , (all grades) interested students have two options:

  • #1 Option - June 13 - lunch, listen and ask questions.  Students can sign-up for the lunch and listen session.  A pizza lunch will be provided, or students can bring their lunch.  Space is limited.  Sign up today. 
  • #2 Option - June 13 - individual or small group session during Period 1, 2, 3 or 4 (specify the period).  Students also have the option to meet with the Child and Youth Services Worker throughout the day on June 13 to work on specific strategies that will support them.  20-30 minute sessions.   

 

Families may sign up students by sending an email.  Email your choice of option to jim.pulickeel@ddsb.ca with the option #, student name (first and last), and the period 1, 2, 3, 4 or lunch.  Please communicate this information to your student if you are signing them up.  Contact the Guidance Office at 905-420-1885 if you have any questions.
